Expectation Versus Agreement

Expectation Versus Agreement

When I rewind my life and examine it, I see expectation.

I see my younger self, often powerless, with expectation.

Expectation about business relationships.

Expectation about what the other person wants or doesn’t want.

Expectation about the way “things should be.”

My expectation was created from stories and experiences I had.

In this land of expectation, I created magic. I created my own alternative reality and I gave it power.

When I examine this pattern, I see the core of my pain and suffering.

Instead of asking the other person a question, I built the expectation that they didn’t want to share and I never asked.

Instead of pursuing a vision or an idea, I was a slave to multiple expectations of life that often left me paralyzed and distracted.

Expectation.

My inner tension and friction that I experienced, which left me powerless, also left me disconnected.

Internal disconnection.

We often cannot see it, but we can feel it.

Sometimes we label it as “insecurity.” Our inner foundation lacks security. Conflicting narratives unreconciled.

My being changed when I started removing expectation and living with agreements.

Agreements with others built on trust.

Agreements with myself in what I had power over and what I did not have power over.

This evolution shifted my words and actions.

No more guessing, no more expectation, no more assumptions.

More of me, honoring someone else’s power, and letting them decide.

Less of me holding onto rigid expectations of the future.

More of me in agreement with my intention and not being powerless to it.

Expectation is powerless.

Expectation disconnects us from reality. It creates the gap that feeds our suffering and pain and frustration.

Agreement is powerful.

Agreement connects us with what is. It honors our current foundation. It grounds us.

Stop expecting, with yourself and others.

Start creating agreements, with yourself and others.
