The IKEA Effect of Your Reality

Mental tools: The IKEA Effect of Your Reality

IKEA furniture.

The furniture you build yourself...

And as such, you value it more.

Because you made it.

Studies show that IKEA owners move to new homes with their IKEA furniture because they feel a closer connection.

Many studies have been conducted to see how much work someone needs to put into something before they take ownership of it.

For example, one study around cooking examined how much involvement you'd need to have in cooking a recipe to feel good about your creation.

And the same is so with your reality.

Your reality...

The thing you have learned to see.

Your reality is everything you have given language to, including yourself.

The reality about who you are.

The reality about who you can be.

The reality about who other people are.

The reality about the world and what the world looks like.

You have learned a certain version of your reality.

As such, there are over 7 billion versions of reality that exist in the world.

To see reality as something that exists outside of you is a misinterpretation.

You learned to see the reality based on numerous experiences, other people, and the media.

When you have learned about this reality, and how you give power to it all, you can begin to change it.

To mold it.

To form it.

To adapt it to your liking.

This is the fundamental beginning of living in a desirable world.

The challenge?

The challenge occurs when you protect your reality.

The challenge occurs when you do not see this articulated truth because you are so close to it.

The challenge occurs when you refuse to mold, or even scoff, at the idea of changing your reality.

And as such, you, and only you, are the one that continues to live with your version of reality.

I invite you to upgrade it.

I wonder how it could serve you differently.
